Our vision is to promote international exchange and cooperation with citizens as the main actors, deepening mutual understanding and friendly relations.
History
1996
23 people participated in a citizen dispatch group to the city of Longview, Washington State, USA, one of the sister cities of Wako City, Saitama Prefecture.
Feb. 1997
A group of 23 citizens was joined by 17 volunteers, forming "Society of Wako International Exchenge" with a total of 40 members.
Activities started with interactions with an Assistant English Teacher from Longview City.
Jun. 1997
Have started the first Japanese language instructor training course. Since then, we have been holding training courses irregularly.
Apr. 1998
Opened a Japanese language classroom.
Establishment of a Japanese language research group.
Oct. 1998
"HIROBA" for chatting in Japanese has started.
Jun. 1999
Cooking class led by Japanese language class learners was held. Since then, learners from various countries have become instructors and held classes.
Feb. 2005
Received the Saitama Prefecture International Contribution Award.
Jul. 2010
Japanese Learners Presentation Event has started where participants give speeches on various themes. In years when the presentation event is not held, a place for interaction is provided in the form of a Japanese Learners Discussion Meeting, continuing both the presentation event and the discussion meeting.
Mar. 2014
Awarded by the Education Commission of Wako City.
Sep. 2014
International Understanding Seminar held. Since then, Japanese language class learners have become instructors and are holding International Understanding Seminars.
Oct. 2016
Held a speech contest as part of the 20th anniversary celebration event.
